ROCKY Rocky is a handsome example of a success story from our Seniors for Seniors program. When 85-year old Estelle decided to adopt a new friend, she arrived at the shelter looking for a small sized dog. But Rocky had something different in mind! Estelle immediately noticed the quiet, 10-year old.

SPYDER Little 5 week old Spyder and her litter mates were rescued after having been found living in a wall. Her brothers and sisters had all been adopted except for Spyder. It seemed that her front legs had atrophied while she was at the bottom of the pile of kitties in the wall, so she had difficulty walking.

ROXIE, Lake Huntington NY Roxie came to us on a winter morning, shivering with fright and dangerously underweight. One of our volunteers decided to take her home and foster her in an environment where we thought she might improve faster. After a new feeding regimen, some important vet visits she found a permanent family.

BLAZE Some of you may remember Blaze from the news stories she was featured in during the Summer of 2006. Her unfortunate start with us came when she was found having recently given birth, and left tied to a tree to die in the woods. She was in pitiful condition, but after some TLC she was at it fast.

JOJO, Wolf Lake NY Jo-Jo was adopted by Hope Ryden, whose summer home is in Wolf Lake. I worked with them for several sessions to help with separation anxiety and basic obedience training. The Rydens have returned to NYC for the winter and asked to use these photos as a "Success Story" ~ Barry McDonald, DogSense

HARLEY We adopted Harley after our Golden Retriever of 12 years passed away. Harley is the perfect fit for our family. My wife found her on your website. We wanted another Golden, but also wanted to adopt from a shelter. My wife likes the darker color Goldens, so Harley seemed like the perfect choice.

MIMI, Woodbridge, NY At first I had little doubt, because she was already 3 years old. She exceeded my expectations! She adapted to country life and rules so quickly (she was city girl). She learned to live in harmony with chickens, geese, ducks...She brings us so much joy and we love her dearly! P.S. She is a spoiled brat :)

LADY, Highland Lakes NJ We adopted our pitbull from your shelter in March 2003. She's a special furry bundle of love! Our children are growing up with her, and we can't imagine our lives without this precious girl! In the summer, she loves to lounge around on the deck, in the winter she relaxes in front of the fire.

CODY, Liberty NY Cody loves to dig holes in the ground, play with all his new toys (he had to learn how to play) and wrestle with his little Gertie. He is so trusting and cuddly. He has come a long way since his first day home. He barks a special thanks to the person who rescued him from his previous situation.

MISTY, Liberty NY Misty loves to sit in the window and watch the bird feeder and cuddle up on the bed at night. She is very calm, playful and very tolerant of two little dachshunds!
